Night of tensions in Paris following the death of George Floyd in the United-State. Assa Traoré called for a demonstration to “claim justice for Adama, justice for all the victims”.
Demonstrators were expected this Tuesday June 2 at 7 p.m. in front of the Paris crown court despite the ban of demonstration ordered by police prefect Didier Lallement. Over 15,000 demonstrators came and gathered despite the ban shouting: “Pas de justice, pas de paix” [No justice, no peace] in front of the court.
Adama Traoré’s sister Assa Traoré called for the gathering and points out a “denial of justice” symbol of police violence. For the record, three medical-judiciary expert assessments have swept away the responsibility of the police in the young man’s death back in 2016 but the assessment ordered by the family, unveiled on Tuesday, contradict them.
“Today, when we fight for Georges Floyd, we fight for Adama Traoré” Adama’s older sister Assa screams before demonstrators chanting “Révolte” [Revolt] or “Tout le monde déteste la police” [Everybody hates the police].
If the demonstration was quiet at first, at 9:20 p.m. fires have started under the beltway and blocked the traffic because of the bad visibility. At 9:50 p.m. firefighters started to extinguish the fires.
