Like the SNCF, that had to remove trains from booking, this summer, Air France has decided to cancel many flights planned for July and August. How come? Same as for the SNCF: too few bookings and planes not filled enough.
“Since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis, Air France has been adapting its network and flights in real time”, depending on the reopening of borders and demand, the airline explained to the AFP. Air France guarantees to update its flight program “regularly in the next weeks”.
Since the coronavirus crisis broke out, Air France has seen, like all airlines, its traffic drop. Therefore, since mid-March, the airline was providing less than 5% of its flights and expects to get back to 15% of its capacity by the end of June. “In July and August, Air France plans to operate respectively 35 and 40% of its usual program. All other flights have been cancelled, and commercial measures are set up to enable customers to postpone or cancel their trips”.
Many travelers have complained to have their flights in July or August cancelled out of the blue. Flights sometimes booked and paid weeks ago. “Beyond August 31, the program available is the only initially planned” Air France says.
