You may have been wondering if it was risky to handle cash amid the coronavirus epidemic…
To reassure you and answers questions, the Bank of France has said the AFP that “scientific analyses ordered these past weeks to European laboratories have confirmed bank bills pose no particular infection risks in comparison with other daily surfaces”.
“Comparing the behavior of the virus on different types of surfaces, it appeared that it could survive ten to a hundred times longer on stainless steel (a door handle for instance), than on a bank bill”, the institution says, before adding that “other analyses shown that the virus was spreading with more difficulties on porous surfaces such as bills than on smooth surfaces such as plastic”.
As a conclusion, “using bank bill poses no particular risk of being contaminated on a daily-life basis, as long as you keep barrier gestures recommended by the World Health Organization”.
