The end of the Citizens' Climate Convention. After nine months of work and seven working sessions in Paris, the 150 citizens selected to reflect on the future of France have delivered their copy. A report with more than 100 proposals to answer the question "How to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% by 2030, in a spirit of social justice?", around 7 different themes, including "consuming", "feeding oneself", "moving around" or "housing".
Among the proposals of the "moving around" group, the speed limit of 110km/h on freeways, but also the banning of the most polluting vehicles in the city center, and the banning of the marketing of new vehicles that emit a lot of greenhouse gases from 2025. The group has also expressed the will tostop domestic flights by 2025 and to ban the construction of new airports.
In other areas, the 150 citizens propose to make recycling mandatory for all plastics, to eliminate all single-use plastics by 2023, to return to a deposit system for glass, but also to display the carbon footprint of products on the packaging and to ban the most environmentally dangerous pesticides in 2035.
These proposals must be voted on in plenary session before being sent to the Élysée Palace. Emmanuel Macron will provide "a first response" on June 29. If they do not know what will happen to their proposals, the citizens have created their association "The 150" and are determined to continue to defend their proposals.
We recall that the government had voted the speed limit to 80km/h on two-way roads without central separator on July 1, 2018, before retracting in January 2020, leaving the possibility to the presidents of departmental councils to choose a return to 90km/h.
Will the 110km/h speed limit suffer the same fate?
