Electric scooters, electric unicycles, electric skates… for several years now, these personal mobility devices or PMD have taken over streets in big cities. If you are one of the many fans of electric scooters, note that new rules have been implemented on July 1, 2020.
Therefore, electric scooters now must be fitted with front and rear position lamps, as well as retro-reflection devices (reflectors), and last but not least a braking system and an audible warning. In case these new rules are broken, the offender may be fined €11 for lack of “effective braking” and €35 for lack of lights or audible warning. We remind you if you drive on a sidewalk, you may be fined up to €135.
