If there was one must-see monument in Paris, it would undoubtedly be the Sacred Heart. Genuine place of admiration for tourists, as well as for Parisians, the monument nestled on the Butte Montmartre keeps on attracting crowds – excluding in these health crisis times of course as tourists are lacking in Paris.
To protect this monument, the procedure enabling to officially list the Basilica of the Sacred Heart as historical monument has been launched by the Île-de-France Regional Office of Cultural Affairs (DRAC) in partnership with the City of Paris.
The project has been examined on Tuesday October 13 by the Île-de-France Regional Heritage and Architecture Committee. The project now has to be examined by the National Heritage and Architecture Committee and be subjected to a decree by Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot. Once everything is done, the Sacred Heart will be definitely listed as historical monument.
“The Sacred Heart is one of Paris symbols. It is the building the most visited in the capital since Notre-Dame is resting. But as surprising as it can be, it is not listed and protected as historical monument, a sign of a slow acknowledgement of the architecture from the 19th century” Île-de-France Regional Office of Cultural Affairs director Laurent Roturier explains on the DRAC website.
