The head of state said a reinforced health protocol will be set up. As new measures are to be detailed within the day during a new press brief, Prime Minister Jean Castex addressed the matter on Thursday October 29, 2020 at the National Assembly. The chief of the executive explained face-mask wearing is now mandatory for “children starting from 6 years old in elementary school”.
“Starting Monday, the health protocol will be adapted and reinforced to keep everyone save: children, teachers, pupils’ parents. In accordance with the decree handed over yesterday by the High Council for Public Health, facemask-wearing will be extended to children from elementary school from 6 years old” Castex announced.
For the record, the matter on having children from 6 years old wear a facemask sparked a lot of debates. Lately, epidemiologist Dominique Costagliola explained it would have been necessary – when the first lockdown was lifted – to make facemask-wearing mandatory from elementary school. This is what she said in an interview published on October 24 in the Journal du Dimanche.
