A migrant camp in Saint-Denis is being evacuated and shut down. This Tuesday November 17, over 2000 people have to be evacuated by the police.
The “camp de l’écluse” is set by the Stade de France, between the stadium and the highway A1, at the place de l’Ecluse, in the middle of the road. Migrants lived there in “unsanitary conditions” Secretary of the Interior Gérald Darmanin wrote in a tweet.
“These camps are not acceptable. This operation aims at putting people of regular status safe, and undocumented people are not supposed to stay on the territory” Paris Police Prefect Didier Lallement claimed during a press brief.
Mostly coming from Afghanistan, people removed will be placed safe in the 26 shelters and gymnasiums set in Ile-de-France. 70 buses have been requisitioned to drive them to the shelters as set up by the Ile-de-France region prefecture.
