Covid vaccination campaign is escalating… As dozens of vaccination hubs are to open in France by mid-April, and vaccine dose deliveries are to dramatically improved by a few weeks, a question was raised as the pace is speeding up and the country is lacking staff allowed to vaccinate.
Nurses, pharmacists, doctors… The list of specialists grows along Véran’s statements. But who is allowed to vaccinate in France now? Here are all medical workforces allowed to process, and those given temporary authorization, just for the time to get rid of Covid.
You know well that you are usually vaccinated by your GP, depending on booster vaccination to do or not. An obvious choice for the health authorities expecting to really rely on doctors (who know patients the most at-risk within their patient groups) to give doses.
It also applies to hospital medical staff, allowed to vaccinate you. They are the first to have been solicitated in the different vaccination centers in France, and within their very hospitals. To nurses are added firefighters who – in addition to vaccinated us (for those with medical training – have been called to manage the logistics of vaccination centers, as explained by our peers from France 3.
But the number of people allowed to vaccinate is no longer enough. Therefore, several weeks ago, Olivier Véran announced vaccinations can be performed in pharmacies, as pharmacists are authorized to inject doses of vaccine.
After pharmacists, veterinarians and dentists are allowed to vaccinate – as announced this Thursday March 25 by Health Minister. To this vaccinating workforce are added medical laboratory pharmacists.
Already vaccinating for months, nurses are also allowed to prescribe doses of vaccines to improve processes.
Note Véran has already called – as reported in the press brief of March 25, 2021 – medical students, and young medical retirees to come and support teams in vaccination centers.
