This is a world first since the vaccination campaign has been launched. As the coronavirus epidemic goes on around the world, the vaccine embodies the hope to see things get back to normal. But how long for? In order to know how long the different vaccines immunize for, the Inserm – the French National Institute for Health and Medical Research – launches a wide clinical investigation in France in partnership with 35 medical centers.
The latter are therefore looking for 10,500 non-vaccinated volunteers to partake in this study. Rennes university hospital head of the clinical investigation center Pr. Laviolle told Ouest-France about the profiles they are looking for: “on one hand, a so-called ‘special’ population suffering from cancer, diabetes, or multiple sclerosis for instance. On the other hand, a so-called ‘control’ population divided into two groups: 18-74 years-old and 75+”.
As for the process of the study, it will reportedly occur as follows: searchers first meet with the volunteers ahead of vaccination. Then, the evolution of their antibodies is observed with blood samples performed “one month in, six months in, one year and two years in”. Note the Rennes University Hospital is currently looking for 400 volunteers including first French aged 75+ and who have not been vaccinated.
