Has France managed to curb the spread of some coronavirus variants? The challenge is considerable: the UK variant – more transmissible than the historic strain – is now predominating in France and considered as accountable for the surge of the epidemic and the third wave. But others also concern the scientific community: the South-African, Brazilian, and Indian variants.
According to the latest consolidated data reported by Santé Publique France, the proportion of SA and Brazilian variants in France has been stable over the week from April 12 to 18, 2021 in comparison with the week before. Face with the threat from these mutations detected worldwide, the government has strengthened conditions to enter France to some countries: India, Brazil, South Africa, Argentina, and Chile.
“We have won the fight against these variants that are a threat we had to protect ourselves from”. This Sunday April 25 in the morning, visiting the Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport, PM Castex claims they took all precautions. He adds that “there are very few variants (SA and Brazilian), and tend to decline”.
