And what if reopening terraces was actually good to fight the coronavirus epidemic? As France is about to move to phase two of the lockdown exit scheme, outdoor outings could enable to decrease contamination tolls.

Starting from May 19, 2021 the French are allowed to go back to terraces again, and they are happy with it. This second phase of the lockdown exit in France gives a start to returning to the life as it was before. But should it be feared or expected? The question raises many concerns. As some specialists think the lockdown exit is too early, condemning the decision to be more political than health-oriented, others see – on the contrary – the possibility to curb coronavirus contamination tolls.

This Thursday May 13, 2021, Pr. Rémi Salomon explains this paradox. The APHP Medical Commission President gave an interview to Jean-Jacques Bourdin on BFMTV and RMC. As for concerns caused by the lockdown exit, he focuses on contamination means: “There are much fewer contaminations outside, contaminations mostly occur inside”, he insists on.

I do hope the opening of terraces be eventually good, it means, if people understand it is better to go outside to meet with families and friends”, Salomon explains. The reopening of terraces then gives an alternative to the French who can therefore meet outdoors rather than gathering within their homes, the latter being more likely to spread contaminations.
