As expected, a fifth epidemic wave is hitting France this Fall 2021. A dramatic rise in coronavirus cases have been reported in the country. And with each wave return the usual questions: will there be new restrictions? Shall one expect another lockdown? When will the epidemic peak?
As for the latter, some answer leads have been delivered this Monday November 22, 2021 in the morning on France Inter by AP-HP (Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris) chairman Martin Hirsch. He considers predictions are difficult to assess today because of the seasonal diseases. And yet, he said if the epidemic peak is to happen it will occur around late December or January.
At the same time, he describes a rather stable situation at the hospital regarding coronavirus cases: “The number of hospitalized patients does not increase too quickly, for critical care, it is quite stable as new cases are increasing. (…) In Île-de-France, there are a bit less than 300 patients in critical cares, including a third at the AP-HP, and there are a bit less than 600 sick hospitalized out of critical care. The toll of Covid patients in ICU beds is about a fourth”.
