According to a report from the Regional Audit Chamber, it would be better for Paris to increase residential parking fees to encourage motorists to use underground parking. Some recommendation refused by elected Parisian representatives.

Could parking in the city cost more? This is what recommends the Regional Audit Chamber in a report looked up by Le Parisien. To date, Parisians enjoy a residential fee allowing them to park for a lesser cost in the area they live in. If you own a car, you may be paying the €45 package set up by the city of Paris, allowing you to park for a lesser cost. On the contrary, public parking lots – often more expensive – are less popular. A situation the Regional Audit Chamber would like to see change.

To do so, they recommend to increase the residential parking fees, and decrease those for underground parking to encourage Parisians to go for the latter. But be rest assured! Prices will not increase. At least, this is not planned to date. Several Paris deputies – reached out by Le Monde – claimed the project was not on the agenda as Parisians’ purchasing power is mishandled. Yet, the report does encourage the authorities to reinforce activity in underground parking lots as traffic there has been decreasing for twelve years.
