This Thursday September 8, 2022, Queen Elizabeth II peacefully passed away at 96 years old, in her Balmoral castle, Scotland. After the news that moved the whole world, the Eiffel Tower was turned off to pay her tribute. A symbolical action that will be renewed this Friday night, from 10 p.m., the Paris authorities announced.
And Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo wished to “guarantee Ambassador Menna Rawlings her deepest sympathy and Paris support to the people of the United Kingdom”. Multiple tributes have been paid over the world, on social networks or through iconic landmarks such as the New York Empire State Building. Flags have been put at half-mast, and the Elysée Palace had the United Kingdom’s added to show support. In Paris, the British Embassy has been seeing crowds of people to lay flowers or candles and collect themselves.
