Did you know there is a place in Paris named after Queen Elizabeth II? Set in the 4th arrondissement, this place was renamed when the British Queen visited in 2014.

This Thursday September 8, 2022, Queen Elizabeth II passed away at 96 years old, after 70 years of reign. She left British people in mourning. Since last night, many of them have been collecting themselves in front of Buckingham Palace.

Homages are paid in France too. This Friday September 9, Emmanuel Macron visited the British Embassy in Paris to pay tribute to late Queen Elizabeth II and sign the book of condolence. We must say the Queen has maintained long-time friendship with France. The Queen of England even visited 5 times during her reign.

In Paris, a place has been even named after her. Set on the Île de la Cité, in the 4th arrondissement, in 2014, the iconic flower market has been renamed “Marché aux fleurs Reine Elizabeth II”. To top it all, the Queen herself inaugurated the new name during her last official visit in the city on June 7, 2014.

But then, why has this location in particular been named after her? To understand so, you have to travel all the way back to 1948. That year Elizabeth II completes her first royal visit in Paris as a princess. She then discovered the iconic flower market. 66 years later, now Queen for 61 years, Elizabeth II is back in the iconic flower market to inaugurate the famous sign bearing her name.
