Many of the most energy-hungry homes are in Paris! The département has the second-highest number of thermal flats in France, which is going to pose a problem when, in a few years' time, properties rated F and G on the energy performance diagnosis will be banned from being rented out. Last year, rents for these properties were frozen.
There are more than five million thermal flats in France, representing 17% of the total housing stock. At 35%, the number of such dwellings is much higher in Paris than in the rest of France. Creuse, however, outranks the capital by 0.2%. Cantal, Nièvre and Orne follow after Paris, making the center of France the region most affected by poor housing.
But unlike the Paris region, these four départements are showing a willingness to reduce the number of energy flats, with a drop of around 20% noted in four years! In 2018, 567,000 primary residences in Paris were affected, i.e. 54% of the private Parisian housing stock, mainly due to the lack of recent construction.
