From November 2023, it will no longer be possible to see Gustave Courbet's famous painting at the Musée d'Orsay. "L'Origine du monde", which has been exhibited there since 1995, is temporarily on loan to the Centre Pompidou-Metz, for an exhibition dedicated to Jacques Lacan, the painting's last owner.

L'Origine du monde will disappear from the corridors of the Musée d'Orsay. Rest assured, this absence is only temporary! Gustave Courbet's famous painting, painted in 1866 and exhibited at the Musée d'Orsay since 1995, will be on loan to the Centre Pompidou-Metz.

The Metz museum will host the work within its walls as part of the exhibition"Lacan: Quand l'artiste précède le psychanalyste", from November 18, 2023 to April 15, 2024. He will leave Paris a few weeks beforehand, and should return before the summer of 2024. The exhibition will trace Lacan's relationship with art. The psychoanalyst was the last owner of L'Origine du monde.

This is not the only painting that the Musée d'Orsay is lending to the Centre Pompidou-Metz.Auguste Renoir 's Danse à la ville will also leave the 7th arrondissement of Paris to enrich the exhibition"Suzanne Valadon. Un monde à soi", from April 15 to September 11, 2023.

But don't worry, there's plenty more to see!
