Since the death of 17-year-old Nahel, killed by a police officer in Nanterre, Hauts-de-Seine, acts of violence have been multiplying in France. On Thursday night, fires and clashes again broke out in several towns in the Île-de-France region, including Paris, where scenes of looting were reported in the Les Halles district, according to BFM Paris. The Paris police announced that at least 307 people were arrested in the Île-de-France region during this third night of violence.
On Thursday June 29, 2023, the town of Clamart, in the Hauts-de-Seine department, was the first to announce the implementation of a night-time curfew. Clamart adopted a decree " aimed at implementing a curfew between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. from Thursday June 29 to Monday July 3 ".

"As a precautionary measure and to ensure the safety of people and property, the City of Clamart has closed public facilities and cancelled events until Sunday July 2 inclusive," adds the municipality on its website, adding that " these measures are complementary to those adopted with our partners, in particular the cessation of bus and streetcar traffic between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. and the cancellation of school parties ".
Another Ile-de-France town to introduce a night-time curfew? The commune of Neuilly-sur-Marne, in Seine-Saint-Denis. On its website, the town announced the introduction of a curfew in certain areas of the town " to prevent troublemakers from circulating freely ".
As a result, " all movement is prohibited between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. in the neighborhoods most affected or at risk of being affected by the previous night's acts of savagery, namely the Fauvettes-Val Coteau, Mairie and Primevères areas ". Please note that this order is valid until 6 a.m. on Monday July 3.
On its website, the city of Neuilly-sur-Marne explains that " since Wednesday evening, the city has been prey to savage attacks directly targeting its most essential institutions and public services. A nursery school was attacked, the municipal police station and all its vehicles, the media library and the housing department were set on fire ".
In Seine-et-Marne, the town of Savigny-le-Temple is also under curfew. On its social networks, the town of Savigny-le-Temple states that it has issued an order " decreeing a curfew for minors throughout the town, from 10pm to 5am ". The order is valid until Sunday July 2 inclusive. "If they need to travel, minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian," adds the town.
Finally, the town of Meudon, in the Hauts-de-Seine department, also issued a decree on Thursday evening, introducing a curfew from 10pm to 6am, and banning all traffic in certain areas, notably in the Meudon-la-Forêt district. The curfew was valid until Friday morning. It remains to be seen whether the town will extend this night-time curfew for the coming days.
