Soon no more puffs in tobacco shops? At least, that's the government's intention, as Elisabeth Borne told RTL on Sunday September 3. Asked about the government's plans for the new school year, the Prime Minister said that disposable electronic cigarettes would be banned as part of a "new national anti-smoking plan".
Elisabeth Borne detailed the reasons for the ban. According to her, the puff, whose nicotine content is much lower than in conventional cigarettes, becomes"a reflex, a gesture that young people get used to. Then, that's how they become smokers, and that has to be stopped", she added. It is, in fact, particularly popular with teenagers, even though the sale of puff is supposedly forbidden to them. However, just because the nicotine content is lower doesn't mean the danger isn't there, which is why the government prefers to take measures as radical as a total ban.
No date has yet been given for the ban's entry into force, but the anti-smoking plan should see its first effects sometime in 2024, according to Elisabeth Borne.
