" Elle sort de son lit, tellement sûr d'elle, la Seine, la Seine, la Seine ", sing Vanessa Paradis and Matthieu Chedid in the animated film " Un monstre à Paris ". With a length of some 777 km, and flowing into the English Channel between Le Havre and Honfleur, the Seine is undoubtedly France's most famous river. The river flows through Paris, splitting the capital in two, with the Left Bank on one side and the Right Bank on the other. It's not for nothing that the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place on the Seine.
Every year, a huge number of tourists come to admire this river from the capital. There are those who prefer to walk along the banks and others who opt for the unmissable boat cruise on the Seine, to enjoy a breathtaking view of the capital's many monuments (the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Musée d'Orsay...).
Proof of its renown, the Seine has been named the second most picturesque river cruise in the world, according to a new study by PayingTooMuch, a travel insurance price comparison site. To carry out the study, the specialist site based itself on the river cruise destinations most photographed on Instagram and TikTok.
With a little over 18,500 publications on Instagram and an impressive 14.9 million views on TikTok, the Seine takes second place in this ranking.
But who is it that dethrones the Seine, and which river comes first in this global ranking? The answer is the Nile. Africa's famous river has racked up over 35 million views on TikTok and almost 90,000 posts on Instagram. With a length of around 6,700 km, the Nile is one of the longest rivers in the world, alongside the Amazon.
In all, four European rivers (the Seine, Rhine, Danube and Douro) feature among the 10 most picturesque river cruise destinations in the world, again according to this study.
