The attractions on the Champ-de-Mars - the puppet theater, the merry-go-round, the small go-kart and the "La Bonbonnière de Marie" guinguette, are being forced to vacate their locations in anticipation of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Champ-de-Mars will be entirely closed to the public for the duration of the competition, forcing these shopkeepers to dismantle and vacate the premises. While some have already been ordered to leave, others have been given a reprieve of a few weeks.
Even if the announcement was a disappointment for the site's regulars, this operation is part of an overall project to clean up the Champ-de-Mars and Trocadéro before the Olympics, so that they can be transformed afterwards.

The surroundings of the Eiffel Tower will be entirely rethought and redesigned in the coming years. At the Trocadéro, souvenir stands and crêpe vendors will suffer the same fate, as Paris City Hall is due to hand over the empty site to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which will install its own goodie stands during the Games.
This development, although linked to the Olympic Games, is causing concern among residents attached to these emblematic sites of Parisian life. A petition has been launched to express their disagreement and support these shopkeepers, who are an integral part of the local heritage.
