If you're a regular RER A commuter, you've probably noticed a huge sticker stuck to the windows of the RER's trains over the past few days. As commuters know, these stickers are usually used to announce roadworks and partial line closures. On closer inspection, maintenance work is indeed scheduled for this spring on the famous RER line A, resulting in a partial interruption of traffic.
In detail, RER A trains will not be running between Le Vésinet - Centre and Rueil-Malmaison from Wednesday May 8 to Sunday May 12, 2024 inclusive. During these 5 days of work, Le Vésinet - Centre station will become the temporary terminus for passengers arriving from Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Conversely, Rueil-Malmaison station will be the temporary terminus for passengers travelling from Paris. As for Chatou-Croissy station, it will be inaccessible and closed to users from May 8 to 12 inclusive.
To help passengers with their journey, RATP has announced the introduction of alternative means of transport, with replacement buses. These will enable passengers to continue their journey in both directions. " Nevertheless, journey times will be extended," explains RATP, which is therefore inviting passengers to adapt their routes and postpone their journeys "wherever possible ".
In addition, the Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens warns that RER departure and arrival platforms will be modified for the duration of the work. At Le Vésinet - Centre station, all departures and arrivals, barring incidents, will be from platform 2. At Rueil-Malmaison station, departures and arrivals will be from platforms 2, A and B (platform 1 will be closed).
This interruption in traffic will enable " maintenance work to be carried out on the turnouts in the Rueil-Malmaison area ", explains RATP, which points out that turnouts are subject to constant wear and tear due to the passage of trains, but also to weather conditions. " Renewal of these elements is therefore essential to maintain the quality, reliability and safety of the network," adds the Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens.
RATP also points out that the work will require trains to run at reduced speed for 48 hours, "while the track is stabilized ". A journey time of around 2 minutes will therefore be required between Rueil-Malmaison and Chatou-Croissy on Monday May 13 and Tuesday May 14, in both directions. Some trains will also be cancelled between Rueil-Malmaison and Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
