A new record has just fallen in Paris, and it's not a happy one: with the drizzle recorded on the night of Tuesday December 24 to Wednesday December 25, 2024, the record for rainfall in a single year has fallen. Indeed, in 2024, Paris accumulated no less than 900.9 mm since January 1, 2024, an all-time record, but more importantly, placing this latest year as the wettest ever measured in Paris' history.
In October, Météo France announced "one of the wettest autumns ever recorded in the capital", with the remnants ofHurricane Kirk triggering more than 70 millimeters of precipitation in a single day. We'll also keep in mind the disastrous months of May and June 2024, marked by continuous rain, just like July, when it rained during the entire opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The previous record dates back to 2000, according to TF1 Infos, with 900.8 mm recorded over the year. On a national scale, 2024 is one of the ten wettest years on record, as well as being one of the warmest on record. So, as usual, if you're visiting or living in Paris, we can only advise you to think about your umbrella before you go out!
