Since the start of the war in Ukraine, the fate of Russian athletes has been the subject of much debate. The International Paralympic Committee has already decided not to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to take part in the 2022 Winter Paralympic Games in Beijing, in retaliation (albeit minimal) for Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Now, the participation of these same athletes in the Paris Paralympic Games is under particular scrutiny.

It's now official as of this Friday, September 29, 2023, according to Cnews: Russian athletes will be able to take part in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games next September, on the sine qua non condition of competing under a neutral banner. The decision was voted on by the General Assembly of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), enabling Russian athletes to secure their place at this key international competition.

The International Paralympic Committee has now decided to allow athletes of Russian nationality to participate individually and neutrally by voting for a partial suspension of the Russian Paralympic Committee. As far as Russian Olympic athletes are concerned, the decision is still pending since the International Olympic Committee (IOC) still does not allow athletes to compete under a neutral banner when participating in the 2024 Olympics. A matter to be followed in the coming months!
