The Paris 2024 Olympic Games take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024! A moment of sport, but above all of sharing with the whole world, all in one of the most beautiful cities in the world (we're not the ones saying it...). Among the flagship disciplines, sailing and windsurfing will take pride of place. These sports, which combine technical skill and strategy, will take place in Marseille, an emblematic venue for water sports.

A brief history:

Sailing is a nautical sport in which competitors aboard different types of boats must navigate a course defined by buoys, making the most of the wind. The sport demands perfect technical mastery, a good knowledge of weather conditions and excellent physical condition. First introduced at the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris, sailing has evolved over the decades, with a variety of boat categories and competition formats, adapting to technological advances and new materials.

Windsurfing, also known as windsurfing, is a water sport in which athletes stand on a board equipped with a sail, which they manipulate to move across the water using the force of the wind. Invented in the 1960s, windsurfing rapidly gained in popularity, becoming an Olympic sport in 1984. The sport demands a perfect mastery of balance, an excellent understanding of weather conditions and great physical strength.

In the history of the Olympic Games :

First introduced at the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris, sailing was not present at the 1904 Games, but has been a regular feature of the Olympic program since 1908. The sport has undergone numerous evolutions, both in terms of boat types and competition formats, to become today a modern, highly technical discipline.

Windsurfing made its first appearance at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Since then, it has become a regular event at the Olympics, attracting the world's best windsurfers. The discipline has evolved over time, incorporating technological innovations and more dynamic competition formats.

Our French athletes :

France has always had a tradition of performance in sailing and windsurfing. For Paris 2024, there are several athletes to watch:

  • Charline Picon: Gold medalist in windsurfing at the Rio 2016 Olympics and silver at Tokyo 2020.
  • Jean-Baptiste Bernaz: One of the world's top Laser specialists.
  • Camille Lecointre/Jérémie Mion

These athletes, among others, will be flying the flag for France, trying to win medals in front of their home crowd. Ready to support them at the Marseille marina?
