New Zealand 's first participation in the Summer Olympics dates back to the 1908 London Games. At that time, the country took part in the Olympics as part of the ANZ (Australasia) team. It was in 1920, at the Antwerp Summer Olympics, that New Zealand finally had its own team. A century later, the 2016 Rio Games set a new medal record for the country.
In 1968, New Zealand made its Paralympic debut at the Tel Aviv Games, with a team of three athletes.
