These charms reward years of training and place their holders at the pinnacle of their discipline. In addition, the winners receive a handsome bonus . In France, since 2008, able-bodied and Paralympic medallists have received the same amount of money depending on the medal won, a level playing field that is not found everywhere, and has not always been achieved.

This bonus is not paid by the Olympic Committee: it is up to the individual countries to decide how they wish to reward their athletes.

The rewards

  • Gold medal: 80,000 euros (compared with 65,000 in Tokyo)
  • Silver medal: 40,000 euros (vs. 25,000 in Tokyo)
  • Bronze medal: 20,000 euros (compared with 15,000 in Tokyo)

Some international sports federations have also decided to pay bonuses to medal winners. The athletics federation will pay the winners $50,000 (46,200 euros), while the boxing federation will pay $50,000, $25,000 or $12,500, depending on the color of the medal!

Other countries are even more generous, such as Hong Kong, with no less than 710,000 euros, or 6 million local dollars! In Taiwan, the government offers a lifetime monthly payment of 3,500 euros, in addition to the bonus. In China, Malaysia and Indonesia, athletes can be granted apartments or houses! On the other hand, countries such as the UK, Norway and Sweden do not reward athletes, preferring to emphasize pride.
