As the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games kick off this August 29, we wonder how many medals the French will be keeping at home! Because they each contain a small piece, 18g, of the Eiffel Tower, that monument so emblematic, that should be kept on the land. This inclusion may have increased the value of the medals, be they gold, silver or bronze, but above all it carries an important sentimental value.
So, how much are these Olympic and Paralympic medals worth? Financial specialist Saxo has revealed their valuation, based on materials, comparing their price with those from London 2012. The gold medal, comprising 6g of gold plating and 505g of silver, is valued at 863 euros, compared with 706 euros 12 years ago. The silver medal, with 507g of this material, is valued at 436 euros versus 421, a smaller variation, as it is gold whose price has risen sharply in recent years.
On the bronze side, we're a long way from these handsome sums, since the medal is only worth... 3.58 euros! Composed of 415.15g of copper and 21.85g of zinc, it was worth 2.95 euros in 2012. Well, let's just say that for this one, the value is only sporting, but we're going to need it to increase our medal count and our place in the rankings!
