It's no secret that France is a great cycling country! After the Tour de France, Critérium International, Paris-Roubaix and Paris-Nice, now it's the turn of... The Clichy-sous-Bois loop! The Paralympic road cycling events take place in Seine-Saint-Denis from September 4 to 7. The various race courses are concentrated around the towns of Clichy-sous-Bois, Bondy and Courtry.
The Olympic cyclists rode through Montmartre, Versailles and the Trocadero. Their Paralympic colleagues enjoy a less spectacular, but greener route. In fact, the courses for the para road cycling events run through the Bois de la Couronne, the Bois de Bernouille and along the Bondy regional forest.
The course for the time trial and road race is 14.2 kilometers long, with 140 meters of ascent. Depending on the rider's handicap, several laps of the circuit can be completed. The most difficult sections are the côte de Courtry (1 kilometer at 4.5%) and the côte de Clichy-sous-Bois (850m at 4.7%).
The mixed relay course takes place entirely in the town of Clichy-sous-Bois, around the Henri Barbusse sports complex: a more urban, flatter setting, which should therefore give runners opportunities to show off their strategic strength and speed. The course is 1.8 kilometers long.
To admire and encourage the athletes, you can stand along the course on race days. If necessary, bring a bottle of water or an umbrella, depending on the weather!
