Star Wars fans were served during Disney's Investor Day, which took place in December 2020! After the announcement of a movie for 2023, Rogue Squadron, then the arrival of Darth Vader in the series Obi-Wan Kenobi, now available, or a series aroundAsohka Tano for 2023 and another one around the Emperor's soldiers, Bad Batch, released in 2021, here is that a show announced for a while already pointed the tip of its nose with a first trailer.
This show is Andor, around the hero of the Rebel Alliance Cassian Andor, introduced in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, a feature film by Gareth Edwards released in 2016. A trailer in which we discover several storyboards, as well as the studios and the training of stuntmen. We also find Diego Luna (the interpreter of Cassian Andor) who explains the importance of Rogue One in the chronology of the saga.
A series that showed itself again on August 1, 2022, through a last trailer before the release of the series in a little over a month and a half. We see Andor in his youth, joining the ranks of the Empire, until he meets the Rebel Alliance. As for the release date, it was originally scheduled for August 31, but has been pushed back to September 21, 2022.
"Andor" explores a new facet of the Star Wars galaxy by focusing on the fate of Cassian Andor as he seeks to discover how to make a difference in these troubled times. It tells the story of a fledgling rebellion and how individuals and planets become embroiled in all manner of conflict. It'sa time filled with danger, betrayal and intrigue as Cassian Andor embarks on a path that will make him the rebel hero who challenges the evil Galactic Empire.
The cast includes Diego Luna and Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma, commander of the Rebel Alliance, as well as Adria Arjona, Stellan Skarsgard, Denise Gough, Fiona Shaw and Kyle Soller.
Our opinion on Star Wars - Andor:
Star Wars: Andor succeeds in doing as well as the film of which it is the prequel, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, by offering something totally different from what the Star Wars galaxy usually offers us. We follow here the daily life of simple people, as much in the camp of the Empire as in that of the populations oppressed by the first named... And that's all that makes the charm of the series: their relationship, their feelings, their behavior, their actions... Everything is scrutinized and everything is interwoven to give an overall vision of the birth of the rebellion in its purest form.
Another strong point of the series: to propose a different narration, not episodic, but by arc, a bit like the mangas, thus bringing another density to the story, more interesting and more coherent in what it tells. Arcs that also allow time to tell the stories, at their own pace, before the grand finale where everything comes together and everything becomes very clear. We particularly appreciate the arc taking place in the imperial prison, where Cassian will have the click and become the rebel we know.
What we also appreciate is the political dimension of the series, more put forward than usual. We find there what George Lucas imagined for his saga, namely an intergalactic fascist regime fighting against a group of resistance fighters... Except that here, the subject is modernized, bringing a breath of fresh air in the representation that the saga makes of this authoritarian regime, on a background of economic exploitation. Add to this a photography in tune with the scene and shots sometimes wide, sometimes oppressive, playing brilliantly on the framing, and we get a real little serial nugget, absolutely unavoidable. A series to put in all the hands of Star Wars fans!
