After being selected to represent France at the Oscar for Best International Film in 2023, Alice Diop's Saint Omer won the César for Best First Film at the 48th César ceremony on Friday, February 24.

Saint Omer synopsis

Rama, a young novelist, attends the trial of Laurence Coly at the Saint-Omer Assize Court. Laurence Coly is accused of killing her 15-month-old daughter by abandoning her on a beach in northern France to the rising tide. But during the trial, the accused's words and the testimony of witnesses shake Rama's certainties and challenge our judgment.
