For over thirty years,Acid, a parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival, has been spotlighting singular, intrepid works by emerging independent filmmakers from France and around the world. It's a big boost for these feature-length films, helping them to find their audience, but also a distributor for some of the works that don't yet have one, at the time of their screening at the Cannes Festival.
Most People Die on Sundays, the first feature film by Argentinian actor and director Iair Said, has been selected forAcid 2024. His most recent short film, Present imperfect, had already been selected at the Cannes Film Festival, in 2015 in official competition.
Iair Said 's directorial debut, in which he plays the lead role, tells the story of David, an overweight, gay man in his thirties with an unhealthy fear of flying, who reluctantly returns to his native Argentina to attend his uncle's funeral. There, he reconnects with his mother and his Jewish family, while embarking on a quest through Buenos Aires to ease his anxiety through driving lessons, cheap health care and trying to sleep with any man who will give him a little attention.
Joining him in the cast are Rita Cortese, Antonia Zegers and Juliana Gattas.
