Good news for Mario fans! Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, announced at the same time as the hit Super Mario 3D: All-Stars several months ago, is finally available. A video game available on Nintendo Switch that we were able to test. We tell you all about it!

While Super Mario 3D: All-Stars was released on Nintendo Switch several months ago, in a limited edition until March 2021, another game in the franchise was announced at the same time: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury! Now available, this is a port of the game released for Wii U in 2013. Several weeks ago, it was revealed through a long-awaited first trailer, full of hope for gamers.

Will there be any differences between this opus and the Wii U version? A major addition, only, with the arrival of online multiplayer mode, not to mention additional content, as indicated by the title of the software, Bowser's Fury. There are also a few improvementsto "racing speed and jumps with Super Tinkerbell", as explained by jeuxvideo.com.

The trailer reveals Mario at the heart of several levels, in the company of Bowser Jr. as well as additional content, revealing"the power of Bowser in fury", as Nintendo France's Twitter account explains. A very rock'n'roll, unleashed Bowser who should give gamers a hard time!

Our opinion :

Super Mario 3D World

Super Mario 3D World succeeds in bringing a particularly good, even remarkable Wii U game, which was unfortunately under-rated at the time of its release (due to the console's failure at launch), to Nintendo Switch, without distorting it. It's a welcome breath of fresh air, combining the platform game aspect we're all familiar with with 3D, and one that Nintendo had to include in its range of games for Switch, given its completeness and success.

In terms of gameplay, Super Mario 3D World is devilishly effective, with very simple handling that's accessible to everyone (especially younger players), in the same vein as Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy. There's no need to get used to the game; everything is immediate and refreshing, as Nintendo has become accustomed to doing. There's little difference with the Wii U version, apart from the speed and jumps, in keeping with what the publisher is now doing with its franchise. This is a game that can be played both on mobile and on TV, with a preference for the latter, which offers smoother images (for us).

We also particularly appreciate the pace of the levels, which are fairly short and particularly dynamic, as well as the numerous additions (existing on Wii U) to our moustachioed plumber's powers. Special mention should be made of the cat costume, which is ultra-kawaii and easy to adopt.

One new feature, however, is online multiplayer, which completely transforms the way you approach the game, as you compete fiercely with your partners. We may regret the lack of collaboration, since the idea here is to propose a confrontation with your fellow players, a bit like in Mario Party.

Bowser's Fury

As for Bowser's Fury, a true adventure in its own right, Nintendo is experimenting with new concepts here, and has succeeded in breaking the glass ceiling by offering, for the very first time, a true open world, in the style of a Zelda game, without confusing players and while retaining a certain basic gameplay.

A game that reinvents the way Mario is played, offering classic puzzle phases and more dynamic ones, with a titanic battle against Bowser reminiscent of Pokemon Sword & Shield and its Dynamax monsters. It's rhythmic, Nintendo tries things, and it works. We also appreciate the possibility of storing a certain number of powers, which can be used over and over again.

Visually, it's also a real hit, with landscapes that are sometimes colorful and powdery, sometimes dark and visceral, all delivered with a certain fluidity. In short, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is a must-have for all Nintendo Switch owners, and celebrates the moustachioed plumber's 35th birthday in the best possible way. A must-have!

And to prolong the adventure, we invite you to dive back into Super Mario 3D: All-Stars, and lose yourself in the three games that make it up: Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Sunshine... On your Joy-Con!
