Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and company are finally going to settle down in 2021 at Universal Studios Japan! The theme park announced on November 30, 2020 an opening date for its brand new area dedicated to the Nintendo franchise, Super Nintendo World, but we'll have to wait a little longer to be able to discover the wonders that the resort offers. And for good reason: scheduled for February 4, the opening has been postponed to March 18, 2021 due to the health crisis in the country. And in the meantime, to take your pain in patience, as travel restrictions are still in effect for foreigners in Japan, here is a video tour of the park unveiled Saturday, December 19, 2020 :
Several visuals of the new area were also revealed, as well as a focus on one of Super Nintendo World's already cult attractions, Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge. What does it involve? Four of you climb into one of the video game's famous Karts, then"participants will join their favorite characters in augmented reality, make their way through the Mushroom Kingdom and throw shells at the Koopalings to race to the finish line," as Thomas Geraghty, the attraction's executive producer, explains to our colleagues at jeuxvideo. com. A thrill ride that also offers you to put on an augmented reality helmet to appreciate all the subtleties.
Note that, just like in the video game, you must collect boxes of objects containing bananas, bombs and other shells of Koopa to slow down your opponents and finish first in this wild race. As for the zone, it will also be interactive (like Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland, in the United States), with the possibility of collecting coins via a connected bracelet, each time you perform an action in the park. Shall we book your plane ticket, folks?
