Golf for beginners and experts alike... But on PC and consoles! Discover PGA Tour 2K23, developed by HB Studios and published by 2K Games, available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series since October 14, 2022. More specifically, the game lets you play 18 holes on the 20 licensed courses available in career mode, featuring Tiger Woods.
"As we launch this new evolution of the franchise, there has been no better partner to work with for PGA TOUR 2K23 than our legendary cover athlete, Tiger Woods," explains Alfie Brody, Vice President of Global Marketing Strategy at 2K. He continues:"Throughout his career, Tiger Woods has changed the culture of golf in terms of representation, fashion, prestige and attitude. These are all qualities embraced by PGA TOUR 2K23 and the franchise as a whole".
What can we expect from this new software? Several things, starting with the ability to control pro players such as Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele, Lexi Thompson, Tony Finau, Lydia Ko, Collin Morikawa, Will Zalatoris, Brooke Henderson, Jon Rahm, Justin Rose and Rickie Fowler. In all, 14 pro players are available to play, giving the game a little more substance. Pro players available in Exhibition, Multiplayer and Divot Derby modes. These players can be played against in MyCAREER mode, and other celebrities such as Michael Jordan and Steph Curry are available from the game's launch.
Another new feature is the ability to create your avatar in MyPLAYER, then start at Q-School, earn a place on the Korn Ferry Tour and finish with PGA Tour Pro status. You can also go straight to PGA Tour pro status, depending on your level and affinity with the game. For those seeking a unique gaming experience, Topgolf mode is also available, offering, in solo or multiplayer mode, to"aim at targets and try to achieve the best scores" on a"faithful reproduction of the Topgolf Las Vegas installation".
You can also create your own course in the Course Designer sandbox mode, and share it with the community. And there's a whole host of other surprises you'll have to discover for yourself as you make your way through the software!
Our review of PGA Tour 2K23:
PGA Tour 2K23 is a surprising golf game - in the good sense of the word - in many respects, starting with the variety of ways to play, both for those who know nothing about the game and for experts. There's something for everyone, and that's the real strength of the game. The training mode lets you get to grips with the gameplay step by step.
The gameplay may not be obvious at first glance, but once you've got the hang of it, it becomes really enjoyable, even if the actions are repetitive. Beginners will find themselves repeating the same actions, while experienced players can have more fun by choosing which club to use on which course.
We also appreciate that the courses are not too long, with players able - at least in career mode - to skip the various animated sequences between each shot. It's straight to the point, which is particularly appreciated. Once you're used to the gameplay, you can try your hand at the multiplayer mode, which is just as enjoyable, and gives you a better idea of your level in relation to other players.
The only drawback is the graphics, which are clearly not up to the level you'd expect on the latest consoles, but that's not the aim of the game, since they seem to have been taken on board and, above all, worked on to make them more pleasing to the eye, or at least in terms of the brightness of the software, allowing for longer games - which means less damage to the eyes...
All in all, PGA Tour 2K23 is a pleasant surprise, designed for experienced gamers and beginners alike, and should get you through the cold winter evenings with its sunny courses, almost instilling a little warmth into every game played. Definitely one to put under the Christmas tree!
