Casting spells in Hogwarts Legacy is probably one of the things fans were most looking forward to when they bought the video game. But don't think it's all about casting nice Reparo or Lumos... No, no. What gamers wanted was to be able to fight hordes of black mages, goblins and poachers by freezing them, blowing them up, disarming them or killing them instantly.
And in Hogwarts Legacy, there's plenty of fighting! Just like the spells you can use to attack or defend yourself. The use of these spells is rather well thought-out, by the way, via a slot system, comprising four spells affiliated with the four buttons of current game controllers, all consoles included, multiplied by four, each slot being assigned to the four directional buttons of the controllers, easily "switched" by pressing a combination of buttons.
But what does it mean in combat? First, note the different spells available, grouped into six groups: damage, strength, control, utility, metamorphosis and unforgivable spells, corresponding to six colors, namely, in order, red, purple, yellow, light blue, light green and dark green. Let's forget the "metamorphosis" and "utility" groups right away, as the spells in the former can only be used in the room on request ( Evanesco, Summoning Spell and Alteration Spell), and the spells in the latter are useless in combat ( Lumos, Disillusion, Reparo and Wingardium Leviosa).

So, what do these slots mean? Unlockable as you progress by purchasing an upgrade after a level gain, these will be very useful as you advance in your quests and learn new spells. However, if you don't organize your spells properly, you may well find it difficult to find the right spell to cast at the right time.
To remedy the problem, good organization will save you time and enable you to cast any spell at any time. You have two choices: either you create a slot for each group, so you know where your spells are (i.e. an all-purple slot, an all-red slot, an all-yellow slot and an unforgivable spells slot, but not very practical in combat if you want to create your own combos), or you choose a spell for each group, and then make up your slots, a choice we particularly recommend. You can also go halves and halves, depending on your needs and the way you play.
.
Note, however, that the second solution will enable you to create devastating combos, by grouping the spells enabling these combos in the same slot. Among the combos that are particularly effective in combat, you can try Accio+Incendio (for short-range damage), Accio+Incendio+Repulso (same thing, but repelling the enemy), Glacius+Diffindo/Confringo/Bombarda (particularly devastating on goblins) or all possible curses (Endoloris, Stupefix (against after Protego) upgraded to black magic, Expelliarmus upgraded to black magic....) + Avada Kedavra (instant death of several enemies at once).
All that's left is to organize your slots, and avoid changing them in the middle of a fight. Have you found your perfect configuration?
