The SMS E-sport Cup: a student tournament to combat poverty during the Olympic Games in Garges

On July 26, the final of the SMS E-sport Cup will be held in Garges, on the Olympic Games fan zone at the Complexe sportif Pierre de Coubertin, bringing together some 1,600 players for an eSport competition. Organized by students from the Sports Management School, the event aims to raise public awareness of student poverty and raise funds for the StudHelp association.

In a spirit of solidarity and passion for video games, students from the Sports Management School (SMS) have organized the SMS E-sport Cup, a nationaleSport competition that will take place in the fan zone of the Olympic Games in Garges (95), at the Complexe sportif Pierre de Coubertin, on Friday July 26, 2024, from 5pm to 10pm. Beyond the competitive aspect, this event aims to raise public awareness of student precariousness, a noble and urgent cause.

A competition taking place over twelve dates, with the participation of almost 1,600 players. David Mignot, Academic Director of the SMS, comments: " Over and above the pedagogical interest, what's really interesting in the students' approach is the charitable aspect they wanted to bring via a collaboration with StudHelp, an association offering food aid to students in need ".

Thanks to the donations collected via the registration fees for the various selective stages, the students managed to raise around 2,000 euros. This sum will be used to organize a food distribution during the event, benefiting some fifty students in precarious situations, selected by theStudHelp association according to emergency criteria. Florian Rippert, co-founder of StudHelp, expresses his gratitude: " Organizing this fund-raising event during the SMS E-sport Cup final and in the heart of an Olympic fan zone will enable us to raise awareness among as many people as possible, all in a festive setting ".

This event not only celebrates the prowess ofeSport players, but also demonstrates how the world of video games can join forces with important social causes. The SMS E-sport Cup thus becomes a symbol of student commitment in the face of contemporary challenges, proving that solidarity and gaming can go hand in hand for the well-being of all.
