Fashion Week 2021 will present in Paris the spring-summer 2022 collections of designers and top couturiers, from September 27 to October 5, 2021. For this return to the show floor, fashion will put on a show, with some thirty fashion shows and spectacular exhibitions. It will be an opportunity to discover the new trends in women's ready-to-wear, for the beautiful days of 2022.
"All the major houses are there with a few exceptions, there are new brands, we feel this appetite for the physical, the show," said Pascal Morand, executive chairman of the Federation of haute couture and fashion, to AFP. 97 fashion houses will offer fashion shows and a third will be open to the public.
Saint Laurent will be back, after protesting against the frenzy of Fashion Week, Tuesday evening, September 28 , in its traditional niche. The famous Dior, Chanel, Hermes and Louis Vuitton have also prepared a physical show, as well as Givenchy, whose artistic director will present his first ever real show, and Balenciaga.
However, the Covid crisis has changed attitudes and some temporary setups will keep their place. The French designer Marine Serre and the Belgian Dries Van Noten will make a virtual presentation, after having launched a manifesto, supported by hundreds of small houses, for a more eco-responsible fashion. Pascal Morand finds that the virtual enriches the physical and mentions the choice of many houses for a hybrid Fashion Week.
The fashion week will be closed by a tribute show to Alber Elbaz, designer and former artistic director of Lanvin, who died of Covid in April. To continue to admire the incredible outfits of fashion designers through the years, the Museum of Decorative Arts will host from September 30 an exhibition on Thierry Mugler, Jean Paul Gaultier will present from October 6 an exhibition at the Cinematheque and the Palais Galliera, Paris fashion museum, will celebrate the 100 years of Vogue Paris magazine from October 2.
