Cinémode is the name of thefashion and cinemaexhibition not to be missed in Paris, at the Cinémathèque française, from October 6, 2021 to January 16, 2021. Orchestrated by Jean-Paul Gaultier himself, this exhibition is likely to give you as many thrills as his last fashion show, which brought together many stars. And for good reason, the fashion designer has made dozens of film outfits, he said that " Without the parade of Falbalas, I would never have done this job. Falbalas is the melodrama of Jacques Becker (1945) whose story is set in the effervescence of a fashion house after the war and which will give the designer the desire to launch into fashion.
In 1970, Pierre Cardin, welcomes the young Jean-Paul Gaultier in his house: it is his second fashion school. The chef who is known for his futuristic unisex creations and precursors of the figure of the designer-star! The first proposal of Gaultier will be seen for the first time in The Cook, the thief, his wife and his lover (1989) by Peter Greenaway. We also find him in And God Created Man, The Uptight Charm of the Bourgeoisie, James Blondes, Sleepy Hollow, a mixture of genres, humor, sexualization, cinephilia and pop culture.
More than a Jean-Paul Gaultier retrospective, CinéMode tells the story of how clothes find their place in the cinema, in a great mix of references, code detour and dissolution of boundaries. Clothes inspire both the spectators and the actors who put them on, and a garment that takes on many meanings, a true work of art through which Jean-Paul Gaultier delivers a message, his own, echoing the film or the news.
Note that the designer will also come to sign his catalog at the bookstore of the Cinémathèque française on Sunday, October 17 at 5:30 pm, before a screening of The Fifth Element by Luc Besson (1997).
