A new place for a new life, but still the same name and the same colorful storefront, for the Violette and Co bookshop. After closing in February 2022, the famous feminist, lesbian and LGBTQIA+ store is finally back, still in the 11th arrondissement, but in a different location. The weekend of October 13 to 15, 2023 marked the revival of the bookshop, taken over by a feminist collective who didn't want to see this inclusive meeting place disappear after the founders retired.
More modern, the bookshop now offers a café area, with hot and cold drinks as well as sweet snacks, for reading and enjoying a few sweet treats in peace and quiet. In addition, the bookshop now offers hanging drinks, so that you can pay for a drink without consuming it, and make it available free of charge to others who might not be able to afford it!
As before, the shelves of this feminist temple are stocked with almost 6,000 references, with a wider range of children's books, comics and manga, to combat the lack of representation in this branch of literature. Thanks to a fund-raising campaign, three activist friends were able to revive this living space born in 2004, whose name is both a tribute to the color of feminism and to Violette Leduc, a leading figure in lesbian literature.
