"Bokbar is my home, I've created a place I'd like to have seen in the neighborhood," says Natalie, the founder of Bokbar. In September 2022, she opened this bookshop-café - her dream project - after many years as a linguist and translator. Located in the heart of Belleville, the literary and artistic district of the 20th arrondissement, Bokbar means "book bar" in Swedish, Natalie's native country.
Here, books by Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic, Swedish and Finnish authors rub shoulders on the shelves of this generalist bookshop, which offers novels, fiction, children's books and more. But above all, Bokbar has established itself as a place where people come to meet authors or discover Nordic traditions around major celebrations. Midsommar (in honor of the summer solstice), Saint Lucia (in December), Christmas... For each of these events, Natalie and her team prepare culinary specialties and other traditions that are customary in the Nordic countries, to share with their regular guests.
A bookshop, but above all a café, Bokbar 's is the place to come (sometimes on purpose) to enjoy a Kanelbulle or Cardemomabulle, traditional cinnamon or cardamom brioches made daily by Natalie. "The recipes I offer are ones I learned from my grandmother," explains the bookshop owner, who confides that she was able to open the shop thanks to her excellent (and we weigh our words) cinnamon buns. "When I opened Bokbar, I only had 40 books on the shelves, and I was already selling the buns. They were such a success, I sold so many, that that's how I was able to finance the project in the first place", explains the founder.
Whether you're looking for a coffee and a Cardemomabulle, a book to browse through, or a quiet place to work during the week, this is a great address to treasure!
