On Monday May 20, 2019 at 8 p.m., Paris Théâtre des Champs-Elysées welcomes conductor Louis Langrée, mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter and the Orchestre des Champs-Elysées to celebrate composer Maurice Ravel.

Conductor Louis Langrée has performed quite regularly at Paris Théâtre des Champs-Elysées; regular viewers yet know he hasn’t come in a while. It’s with an impatient pleasure we’ll attend the concert focusing on famous French composer and loved by Louis Langrée, Maurice Ravel (1875-1937).

The program will include entire decades of creation, since over twenty years separate the composition of Shéhérazade, ouverture de féerie (1898) that will open the concert and La Valse [The Waltz] (1920) that will close it. The first one is a work written in Maurice Ravel’s young days when he was still a student and fascinated by a fantasied Orient. The last piece is haunted by the fear of the war that sees the first joyful measures slowly turning into a gloomy melody…

Between the two, Ma Mère l’Oye [Mother Goose] gives pride of place to childish universes and inspired by tales written by Charles Perrault, Madame Leprince de Beaumont and Madame d’Aulnoy.

Good to know: the concert will be divided into two parts each lasting 35 minutes and separated by an interlude for about twenty minutes.

  • Shéhérazade, Three poems for voice and orchestra
  • Ma Mère l’Oye, Five childish pieces
  • La Valse
