Mike Kelley exhibition: closing party and rock concerts at the Bourse de Commerce

Rock comes to the Bourse de Commerce on Friday February 16, 2024 for the closing night of Mike Kelley's "Ghost and Spirit" exhibition. On the program? Concerts and performances combining poetry, noise and the extreme rock music that the American artist was so fond of.

Since October 13, the Bourse de Commerce in Paris has been showcasing the atypical artistic universe of Mike Kelley. This visual artist, who emerged from the West American punk scene, loved to create complex universes, leading to a complete questioning of our culture. Mike Kelley, who died in 2012 at the age of 57, left behind an unclassifiable body of work, both singular and subversive, that left its mark on conceptual art from the 1980s to 2000. His work can be seen at the Bourse de Commerce until February 19.

But before the exhibition closes its doors, the sublime Parisian landmark is offering an evening of concerts and performances tracing the importance of music in Mike Kelley's work. Not to be missed on Friday February 16, 2024 from 7pm to 11:30pm, in the foyer of the Bourse de Commerce, this finissage evening is conceived with New York label Blank Forms. Founded in 2016, Blank Forms is a non-profit organization that supports emerging and underrepresented artists in experimental music, performance, dance and sound art.

On February 16, poetry, noise music and extreme rock music, inspired by Mike Kelley's musical affinities, will be coming to the Bourse de Commerce with Japanese singer Junko, historic member of the band Hijokaidan, as well as King Buzzo, singer and guitarist of the legendary band The Melvins, Lizzi Bougatsos (Gang Gang Dance, I.U.D.) and the Cannibal trio, made up of Cary Loren (Destroy All Monsters), American artist Cameron Jamie and Belgian musician Dennis Tyfus. And let's not forget the presence of John Sinclair, best known as manager of the American rock band MC5.
