Directed by journalist and rock specialist Christophe Conte, this film looks back at the fascinating history of this Ile-de-France château. Located in the Val-d'Oise region of Paris, Château d'Hérouville was bought by the famous film composer Michel Magne, his wife and a friend in 1962. Together, they decided to transform the old building into a residential studio for artists.
While the Château d'Hérouville was a place of work and entertainment for him and his friends, it also quickly became a recording studio for many national and international artists, including Elton John , who recorded"Honky Château" (1972),"Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player" (1973) and"Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" (1973), but also the Bee Gees ("Saturday Night Fever" in 1977) and Pink Floyd ("Obscured by Clouds" in 1972), not forgetting Nina Hagen, Jean-Louis Aubert, Jacques Higelin, Nino Ferrer, Trust and Laurent Voulzy.
Iggy Pop also recorded his legendary album"The Idiot" (1977) here, while David Bowie came to the Château d'Hérouville twice, in 1974 for"Pin Ups", then in 1976 for"Low".
The never-before-seen documentary " Le château d'Hérouville, une folie rock française " (re)discovers the incredible history of this Ile-de-France château, recounting the high points of its life, the dramas that took place there, and the story of Michel Magne, the man behind it all. To do this, the director gathers testimonies from his ex-wife, Marie-Claude Magne, sound engineers Dominique Blanc-Francard and Laurent Thibault, artists Boris Bergman, Bernard Lavilliers, Bill Wyman and Kuêlan N'Guyen, Jacques Higelin's ex-girlfriend. Never-before-seen archive footage is also included.
