As part of the “Madagascar, Arts de la Grande Ile” exhibition held until January 1, 2019 at the Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac, the hira gasy company “Kaompania Rasoalalao Kavia” expects you on November 10 and 11, 2018 at the Théâtre Claude Lévi-Strauss of the Musée du Quai Branly for two exceptional performances.
For the story, hira gasy (Malagasy song) comes from the region of Antananarivo and the Central Highlands of Madagascar. Its origin goes way back to the 18th century at the time when sovereign Andrianampoinimerina starts to extend the rice fields and invites artists to support workers.
Dancers, musicians, acrobats and oratory art masters come to the work sites and from these meetings rises an art mixing theater, words battle, songs, acrobatics performances and dance: hira gasy.
If you feel like discovering this total and festive art, like a street opera where trumpets, drums, violins and flutes rub shoulder with songs, stories and tales of yesteryear, both performances by the Kaompania Rasoalalao Kavia company will be held on November 10 at 6 p.m. and November 11 at 5 p.m.
Both performances will start with parades by the company members in the museum, and the performance held on November 11 will start with a screening-meeting at 4 p.m.
