An updated version of one ofMolière's great classics, coupled with a production by the Comédie Française: that's what Louis Arène and his troupe are offering, with performances of "Le Mariage Forcé" at the Théâtre du Rond-Point. Originally created in 1664 for the ceremonies of Louis XIV, the play is a one-act comedy brimming with misunderstandings and social satire.
Molière's Le Mariage Forcé features Sganarelle, an old man who finds himself obliged to marry a young woman against his will. The play is characterized by its characterization, its use of farce and Molière's virtuoso writing.
This production at the Théâtre du Rond-Point promises a top-quality show thanks to a talented cast of Comédie Française residents: Sylvia Bergé, Julie Sicard, Christian Hecq, Benjamin Lavernhe and Gaël Kamilindi. While respecting the spirit of the work, the lead actors will undoubtedly breathe new life into it, tinged with feminism. The stagecraft, the well-crafted text, the humor and authenticity that are the strength of the text are all elements that we are entitled to find in this staging.
For lovers of classic texts and their reinterpretations, come to the Théâtre du Rond-Point, Paris, from February 20 to March 1 for Molière's "Le Mariage Forcé", and rediscover this emblematic work of the French repertoire.
