In the 9tharrondissement of Paris, on the Grands Boulevards , you'll find one of the beating hearts of the Parisian scene. This is where you'll find some of the capital's most cult theaters, historic addresses that together form part of the capital's festive heritage. Among the most legendary theaters in the City of Light is the Folies Bergère, with its beautifulArt Deco architecture.
It was the capital's first major music hall. Its history dates back to 1869, when it was founded by entrepreneur and theater director Auguste-Alexandre Chilly. Its name pays homage to the pleasure houses known as Folie at the time, and from its inauguration, the venue was designed as a hybrid living space at the crossroads of café, concert and show.
From Joséphine Baker and Dalida to Jean-Paul Gaultier, Ben Harper, Catherine Ringer and Vanessa Paradis, the Folies Bergère has been a showcase for all the big names. A vestige of the Belle Époque, this legendary theater continues to enliven the capital over 150 years later, presenting dance shows, comedy shows and concerts throughout the year, to the delight of Parisians both old and new.
The Grande Salle can accommodate up to 1,200 people, offering a spacious venue for grandiose shows, concerts, musicals and many other events. The more intimate Salle Boris Vian can accommodate around 500 people, and lends itself to more intimate performances, cabarets and variety shows.
