Rose Valland, the extraordinary story of espionage at Théâtre La Boussole

Rose Valland - Sauver un peu de la beauté du monde, is extended following its success, until April 27 at Théâtre La Boussole in Paris's 10th arrondissement. This contemporary play pays tribute to the extraordinary story of Rose Valland.

In 1940, Rose Valland, a French woman with a passion for art, was assigned to the Department of National Museums to protect national collections. A curatorial attaché at the Musée du Jeu de Paume, she reported unofficially to Jacques Jaujard, Director of the National Museums, on the actions of the ERA. TheNazi party's cultural organization (EER) stores works of art stolen from private collectors.

The Musée du Jeu de Paume was used as a depository for the Nazis' looting of Jewish art. In the meantime, Rose Valland accurately recorded the names of all the stolen works and to whom they belonged, including Braques, Matisses and Picassos. She found herself attending private exhibitions organized for Hermann Goering and Alferd Rosenberg, wishing to complete their private collections.

For over four years, Rose Valland provided essential information to the French Resistance, acting alone and risking her life. After the war, she helped repatriate over 60,000 works of art between 1945 and 1954.

In a dramatic comedy, Maud Lesur, the play's author and director, pays tribute to Rose Valland 's story. Six actors join forces on stage in a lively production, with Alexandra Sarramona playing the role of Rose Valland.
