A fine way to discover modern Soviet art after the First World War. The Centre Pompidou is devoting an exhibition to three renowned artists of the Russian avant-garde of the so-called "Vitebsk School": Kazimir Malevitch, Marc Chagall and El Lissitzsky. Three artists who, in their own way, left their mark on modern art, through works that are, for the most part, now familiar to all, such as Marc Chagall's Cubist Landscape (work on the front cover), for example.
The exhibition focuses in particular on the rise of this movement between 1918 and 1922 through these " master figures " of Russian art and " the blossoming of revolutionary artistic activities in this city ". The exhibition also celebrates the 100th anniversary of Marc Chagall's appointment to the Beaux-Arts de la région, and his appointment as curator in 1919.
In all, over 200 major works by the three avant-garde artists, from all over the world, are on show for the first time in a retrospective of this kind, through the prism of the Vitebsk school.
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
